Are you afraid of putting on too much weight during the holidays? Are you wondering how to do your shopping to be on a healthy diet is spite of a limited budget? Or are you interested in getting a few nutrition tips for you children to be active? Then you should check out the following resources.

Tips on staying on track during the holidays

First, it’s time to abandon that “all or nothing” mentality. A single day of indulgence won’t blow your whole year. As Scottie Rawlings pointed out, that 5- to 10-pound holiday weight gain doesn’t occur overnight. Rather, it accumulates during that period of time between Halloween and Valentine’s Day, said Rawlings, a registered dietitian and diabetes educator at Cosmopolitan International Diabetes and Endocrinology Center.

I strongly recommend this article full of many useful tips on how to survive the holiday without packing on punds.

The next article describes another topic which has become quite important – how to make sure you eat a nutritious diet even when o you are on a very limited budget.

National Hunger ‘Events’ Highlight Difficulties of Living on Less

Mary Lou Kiel, training specialist for Penn State Nutrition Links, explained that the average person needs to be educated or trained to be a better shopper.

“If you really want to eat a nutritious diet on such a limited budget, you need to put in the time looking at store advertising circulars, finding out what’s on sale, planning your meals in advance and figuring out how what you buy for one meal can be used for a second meal on day two or three,” Kiel said. “You have to stick to your plan and not be swayed by what you see in the store.”

My last pick is covering my favorite topic we should never forget – the importance of good nutrition for our kids’ health.

Five Tips for Getting Your Kids the Nutrition They Need to Be Active

We know the importance of getting our kids the proper nourishment, but sometimes it’s easier said than done. Children and teens who participate in sports have an even greater need for the proper fuel to get them through their day.

Without the right foods to fuel their bodies, not only will their athletic performance suffer, but their school work is likely to suffer as well. Here are five tips to help your children eat right, and get them started on a life time of good nutrition.

Everyone knows that the body needs certain vitamins and nutrients to function properly. We receive these vitamins and nutrients from the foods we eat. Monavie health juice contains powerful antioxidants, vitamins, and phytonutrients, and it also has glucosamine and plant sterols.

While we understand that the body needs these vitamins, few of us understand why or what these vitamins do to aid our health and overall physical well-being. In everyone’s body a natural process is occurring at all times. This process is called oxidation. During oxidation, some molecules can be destroyed, resulting in a chain reaction that can kill cells. This is not so bad because the body is producing new cells at all times. Antioxidants reduce the damage to your cells from free radicals by stopping them beforehand. Unfortunately, the body cannot produce enough antioxidants on its own.

In order to aid our bodies in protecting themselves from free radicals, we must turn to the foods we eat. There are certain "superfoods" that contain higher amounts of antioxidants and phytochemicals than others do. Monavie juice contains 19 beneficial fruits, including the acai berry. Acai berry is a reddish purplish fruit found in Central and South America. It contains anthocyanins and flavonoids. Flavonoids are the biggest class of antioxidants, and are known to help reduce swelling and aid in body cell protection. Another beneficial superfood is grapes. Grapes contain polyphenols like resveratrol, which is found in wine. This antioxidant is helpful in fighting high blood pressure and boosting heart health. Antioxidants are also known to help interfere with the aging process. Berries, such as blueberries and cranberries, contain antioxidants, phytonutrients, and have a low glycemic load. Glycemic load is important to consider because it affects your blood sugar, and keeping blood sugar levels stable is important for limiting fat gain and keeping energy levels up.

Living at home, students have parents to take care of nutrition. Healthy meals are typically offered on some kind of a regular basis. When students leave the nest and head off to college, however, nutrition problems can rise up and cause problems in other areas. Without anybody to remind them it’s time for dinner and push them to eat their vegetables, students busy with lectures or holed up in dorms taking online college classes can quickly pack on pounds and watch their health deteriorate. Here are some tips to help college students everywhere avoid the weight gain of freshman year and maintain their great health:

Eat Regularly

Skipping meals will only lead to unstable blood glucose levels and unhealthy eating. Dining on a regular basis will keep blood sugar stable. This means you can’t keep skipping lunch to go talk with friends. Grab something to go from the cafeteria and take it along with you. If you have to study during lunchtime then you should take the books with you to the cafeteria and eat while you catch up on your reading.

Healthy Munchies

When you’re cramming for an exam into the wee hours of the morning it’s normal to get hungry for a snack. Enjoying a nibble of something during study sessions is perfectly fine, as long as you’re choosing healthy snacks. Invest in a small, dorm-size refrigerator that you can stock with yogurt, blocks of cheese, and fresh fruits and vegetables. Nuts are also a healthy snack that can be enjoyed anytime. The next time your study session goes late, don’t just order pizza.

Have it Handy

If you don’t have healthy snacks in your dorm room then you won’t be able to take advantage of them. When you’re at the store picking up foods you can grab in a hurry, take the time to choose healthy ones. Leave the chips at the store and head back to campus with sunflower seeds and a bunch of bananas.

Watch out at Parties

Of course you make time for the occasional party. After all, you’ve got to blow off steam sometime. The problem is parties are usually stocked with snacks that aren’t too good for your body. Don’t skip dinner and then head to the party thinking you’ll eat there. Before you go to the party, chow down on a healthy snack and a big glass of water. You’ll find it easier to turn down the junk food, and have more time to visit with friends instead of scavenging.

Sleep Still Matters

It doesn’t matter how old you get, you’ll always need plenty of sleep. The connection between sleep deprivation and weight gain shouldn’t be underestimated. Give yourself the best chance at success by making sure you’re getting enough sleep. Late-night study sessions may be necessary once in a while, but they should never be a regular habit.

Hydrate

The importance of drinking enough water can’t be stressed enough. Staying hydrated keeps your body healthy and helps you control your appetite and cravings. Invest in a closeable water bottle and keep it with you throughout the day. Sip on it in every class and between classes to ensure that you get all the water your body demands.

Heading off to college is full of challenges. There are new schedules to adjust to and the high demands of professors. Taking care with your nutrition and making healthy choices will make it easier to make the transition and be successful, not to mention make it easier for you to maintain the trim figure you enjoyed in high school.

Consumer advocates have opined that the only way to avoid advertising is by sleeping. This claim isn’t an exaggeration. Flip through any magazine and you’ll be bombarded with pages of colorful ads. Television, radio, and the Internet are saturated with content that is designed to sell a product or service. Billboards compete for our attention along the highway and product placement in movies is rampant.

Everywhere we look we see commercials. Many of them are trying to convince us to buy junk food, whether it’s soda, a fast food restaurant, or a product from the entire panoply of readily available convenience foods in markets across the country. Food manufacturers spend billions of dollars each year in an attempt to keep their products in the forefront of consumers’ minds. It doesn’t take a psychology degree to see why. They do it because it works.

Companies that manufacture, distribute, and sell junk food have got their marketing campaigns down to a science. Every facet of a new marketing campaign is managed in its minutest detail. The choice of color scheme in an advertisement or on a product’s packaging is put through rigorous consumer research testing. Catchy slogans and jingles are devised and then repeated ad nausea until the consumer is conditioned to immediately think of a particular brand of junk food every time they hear that phrase or song.

Junk food advertising is impossible to escape. They permeate every media outlet. Some commercials are ingenious or clever; others tickle the funny bone. Some are just plain annoying. In fact, some junk food commercials are produced specifically to annoy. Studies have shown that such advertisements are actually effective because they force the consumer to remember a particular brand or product. This kind of negative stimuli is difficult, if not impossible, to ignore. This is also why commercials are frequently repeated. Consumers may not pay close attention to a commercial on television, but if the commercial is repeated frequently enough the information will register in their subconscious.

Companies that make and sell junk food have become masters at manipulation. One of the best weapons in their arsenal is the use of slogans. Fast food restaurants are perhaps among the most prolific of purveyors of catch phrases. Burger King encourages consumers to "Have it your way." Kentucky Fried Chicken boasts that "We do chicken right." Arby’s encourages people to eat with them, "Now that your tastes have grown up." Perhaps the best known fast food slogans come from McDonald’s. From "We love to see you smile" to "I’m loving it," McDonald’s is the recognized industry leader of slogan creation.

Why is it that slogans work, reeling in consumers to eat junk food that they consciously know isn’t healthy for them to eat? Perhaps they work because the slogans appeal to consumer needs. For example, the aforementioned Arby’s slogan might appeal to an adult seeking to differentiate themselves from what they perceive as the more juvenile appeal of other fast food places. The Burger King slogan might induce a person to visit one of their outlets based on their need to feel more in control of their choices. Each McDonald’s slogan seems designed to entice consumers with a feel good, stress-free experience, which might appear to be a welcome change from their hectic everyday lives.

It is the convenience of junk food that marketing campaigns also tout. Many commercials point out that consumers are rushed. There simply isn’t time to prepare a wholesome meal from scratch. Junk food advertisements promise ease and efficiency. Couple this with the fact that junk foods generally taste appealing, and food companies have come up with a formula for tremendous success. In fact, some studies suggest that our bodies are actually hard-wired to crave foods that are higher in saturated fat. This is certainly something upon which food companies capitalize. They’ve done their own research and they know that if they can get the customer to purchase their product one time, the consumer is much more likely to purchase that product again, particularly if the experience is a pleasurable one.

Junk food producers even use color to entice customers. Red and yellow are considered particularly attractive and the use of such colors as a part of advertising, or as a part of a fast food chain’s logo, can work to attract additional consumers and may even be able to trigger feelings of hunger.

Without a doubt food companies have their fingers on the pulse of the American consumer. Their commercials are innumerable and repeated constantly so as to make an impression in the minds of potential customers. Awareness of the techniques utilized with slogans, colors, and products better enables the consumer to make a well-informed decision about the dietary habits that are right for them.

Staying within your comfort zone is one way to ensure that you get stuck in whatever fitness level you are in. There is also a good chance that it will make you fall back, forcing you to go back and start from scratch. Dealing with your fat loss plateaus as soon as possible will enable you to get back on track in your fitness plans.

A reduction in caloric intake is the common way of reversing fat loss plateaus. This will be helpful if you already are in a moderate to high calorie intake meal plan. However, reducing some more on a low calorie meal plan will only make your fat loss problems worse. Getting less energy than what your basal metabolic rate requires will always result to a slowdown in metabolic activity. Fitness professionals agree that adding physical activity to your regimen first is the more preferred option. Nutritional adjustments to break fat loss plateaus actually starve the fat instead of burning it. That is not to say that cutting calories cannot break a fat loss plateau. It is a possibility, however, having other alternative initially might work to your advantage.

Another useful strategy is the manipulation of macronutrient options. The common proportion is 30% of energy from proteins, 55% from carbohydrates, and 20% from fats. For most people, this is an effective approach. It has been effective for some people to reduce carbohydrates and increase proteins as a way to break fat loss plateaus. Improving the quality of the food you eat can also be productive. If your carbohydrates mostly consist of refined and highly processed types, switching to complex carbohydrates can give your meal plan the impulse it needs to shape up. It is also important to consider protein quality. Plant based proteins are usually incomplete. You will get much better quality proteins with lean meats.

Increasing meal frequency has been described as an amazing technique to jump-start your metabolism. If you’d like to get the most out of it, the timing of your meals is crucially important. If you are currently eating three square meals a day, it’s about time you reconsider your meal plan. Six small meals a day is the recommended frequency. That means six small meals a day will help you maximize your metabolic activity. Adding one or two small meals to your current three-meal plan usually provides mediocre to good results. Making it a total of six small meals a day will keep your metabolism humming to a fast tune. Space your meals every three hours to achieve the best results.

Breaking fat loss plateaus through nutritional strategies does not mean cutting down your daily calories drastically. Sometimes, all it takes is a minor adjustment on your food choices, proportion, frequency and timing. Fat loss plateaus occur because your fitness or nutrition plan has gone stale. Putting in some new strategies to the routine will most likely help you solve the problem.

(Bellingham, WA) - Everyone knows a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing - especially when deciding what to put into your body. That's because lots of nutrition "facts" commonly stated as gospel truth are actually diet myths, and believing them can throw your diet and nutrition plans way off track.

Diet myths gain credibility partly through repetition, according to nutrition expert Gloria Tsang, RD. "I hear the same diet myths repeated over and over as fact," said Tsang, who founded online nutrition community www.HealthCastle.com in 1997.

"But these myths are just that - myths - and believing them will only sabotage your ability to make healthy diet decisions," Tsang said.

She debunked top 6 diet myths:

1. Brown sugar is better than white sugar: Myth! The brown sugar sold at grocery stores is nothing more than white sugar with added molasses.

2. Brown eggs are more nutritious than white eggs: Myth! Eggshell color has nothing to do with egg quality. It varies depending on the breed of the hen.

3. Avoiding shellfish helps lower blood cholesterol: Myth! The dietary cholesterol in seafood has little effect on blood cholesterol. Blood cholesterol is raised by eating saturated fats and trans fatty acids found in deep-fried or processed foods.

4. Cutting carbs helps you lose weight: Myth! You will lose weight at the start of a low-carb diet, but it's water weight lost by tricking your body! Real weight loss can only come from reducing calorie intake or increasing calories burned.

5. Skipping meals save calories: Myth! When you skip a meal, your body thinks you're in starvation mode and slows down the metabolism. Plus, you're likely to overeat at the next meal.

6. Red meat is bad for you: Myth! Red meat can contain saturated fat. However, chicken with skin contains more saturated fat than a lean cut of beef or pork!

Embracing diet myths won't help you lose weight or have a healthier diet. In fact, they can lead you to make bad diet decisions. Simple, nutritious eating is always the best way to lose weight and stay healthy. Times have gone when only females used to handle cooking. They want to give complete nutrition to their family. Many of us want to prepare unique dishes in a short time for the lunch for our families. While you have hundreds of other works and clock is saying tick tock fast you can prepare many healthy lunch recipes in minutes.

If you are stressed out with what to pack for the lunch just don’t hassle any more. You can easily make a supreme lunch even if no fresh vegetable is available in your kitchen. You can go for the previous saved vegetables in your refrigerator which you have used earlier. This may not have the best vitamins for energy but can be of quick use. Just save your time while preparing lunch by keeping things like rubber bands, Tiffin, pouches, and foil at one place.

There can be many healthy lunch recipes which you can go for like eggs, sandwich maker recipes, comfort foods, grilled products, pizzas, pastas, and even healthy tune fishes. It can be very monotonous if you serve the same lunch again and again so try the recipes given below:

1. Sandwich maker recipes: chicken sandwiches in pinwheel

These are healthy, tasty and quick to make chicken sandwiches which will surely make your children’s tummy full. You should have skinned boneless chicken, olive oil, sandwich bread, butter and plum sauce. Just steam the chicken for few minutes and slice it nicely. Just place slices wide on the bread and add butter and olive oil. Cut it in the shape of a cylinder and grill it. And now you can serve it with plum sauce. You can even use ham, pork or turkey for it.

2. Smothered Tempeh sandwich: go for the vegetarians

If you are a vegetarian and left with no yummy recipe for lunch then you can try out this. This is protein rich recipe with Tempeh and full of mushrooms and little provolone cheese. Add spinach and carrots for making it even healthier.

Cut the Tempeh in 4 slices. Cook onion, mushrooms and carrots with spinach in the other pan. Add Tempeh slice and these vegetables to the slice of the bread and make cheese flow over it. Grill a little and serve with soy sauce.

3. Tuna and tomato pasta salad:

This recipe is the best for those who want to lose weight. Tuna is just for flavor you can use even any other oil. Get the boiled drained pasta in the bowl. Add tuna, tomatoes, capsicum, beans and cabbage and mix all well. Drizzle with a good vinegar and serve fast. This recipe surely has the best vitamins for energy.

These recipes are just a few things you can make. For more such healthy lunch recipes you can go online. Rather than sandwich maker recipes you can try Italian dishes also. And remember anything you prepare with love will go well.

Many individuals could not learn to cook while they were young or maybe were raised in homes in which dinners seemed to be at random times during the day, if they made an appearance at all and for that reason don’t know concerning how to make simple meals in the house.

Arranging a super easy supper in the house and also placing it on the table at the very same time daily may well be an extremely good pattern to get. Rather than limiting or perhaps interrupting creative imagination, it actually ASSISTS the imaginative technique, simply by delivering a structure within which inspiration is normally increased. The actual schedule involved could actually help encourage new good ideas or even enable inventive ideas to appear. In cases where you have got a fabulous spouse and children, creating a routine, home cooked meal, however simple would ensure all the youngsters are there so that you can actually eat at the very same point in time and this can certainly aid in family conversation and makes it possible for youngsters to help you with meal preparation. This furthermore means you know that your young ones are receiving the nourishment they require to grow strong, healthy bodies. If you’re simply preparing food for your own benefit or for some other grownup household people, this means that everyone gets healthy nutrition every single day, helping stay away from poor treats and also unhealthy foodstuffs from being hungry or habit. Cooking food at home can be also a whole lot less expensive as compared to eating dinner out, ordering from the nearest chippy or ethnic cuisine supplier or getting prepared meals.

When you haven’t been in the actual habit of preparing food at home, it can be terrifying to begin to think of anything at all to create each day. You could perhaps worry with regards to ways to get every little thing all set in order to dish out all at once! But there is no need to start out by using anything complicated. There are various straightforward economical food items that could maintain your household fed and nourished conveniently. This information will put emphasis concerning how to help make several straightforward nourishing, wholesome and affordable dishes for your family.

Several straightforward recipes can make full dishes by themselves or simply by using just a couple of extra elements. And if you wish to inspire yourself to do anything at all, whether to cook dinner on a regular schedule or develop an additional good habit – look at Freedup to figure out methods to really encourage yourself to try and do just what you really want to achieve.

Scrambled eggs, made with toast make a satisfying dinner on their own. Add tinned pasta or perhaps baked beans and it is possible to nourish virtually anybody. You can include a chopped up tomato for extra nutritional value. Maybe you have tested out microwaved scrambled eggs? They will require about 90 seconds before they will be ready to eat. You cannot get much more immediate than that! Place the sliced bread into the toaster. In a microwavable dish (I use a pyrex jug), employ a fork to mix up 3 eggs really well. Add salt and pepper plus a knob of butter. Microwave on full power for approximately forty five seconds or perhaps 1 minute. Remove the jug and mix the contents. Replace within the microwave for the rest of the time. You may want to adjust the times, based upon your personal microwave power settings. Butter your toast and dish out. Feeds one or two, depending on appetite. For added filling power, without further food preparation, put a teaspoonful of cream cheese, or cottage cheese or even peanut butter on the dish prior to serving.

Ideal for the kitchen American Style Fridge Freezers and Stainless Steel American Fridge Freezers

In the not so distant past , buying organic food was something that many of us considered unnecessary and frankly a little odd. I can recall hearing that fruit and vegetables grown in this way were more dangerous for people than food grown in the traditional manner. The comparisons of organic vs inorganic foods are yet being made, but the arguments against organics are holding less and less water with increasing numbers of individuals shopping for organic over inorganic.

now, buying produce that has been grown without chemicals is part of an overall green living awareness. Consumers are starting become aware that exposure to fewer chemical pesticides and modified ingredients must be better for our health and for the earth’s ecosystem. Proof of this change in public thinking is reflected in the increased number of products in the organic food section of our grocery stores. Once the produce manager might have given you an odd look if you requested such items, we now see the organic products spreading throughout the store. Everybody has their own reasons for making the change. My wake up call was my baby girl’s compromised immune system and food allergies that were my motivation to buy organic whenever possible.

The good news is that the word regarding the benefits of buying organic food is spreading. The bad news is that when you see a product with an organic label it is often accompanied by a more expensive price than traditionally grown foods. This is more than likely one of the only negatives associated with buying organic food.

BUYING ORGANIC ON A BUDGET

If your family budget is already stretched to the breaking point and you simply can’t afford to pay more to feed your family, a good approach may be to buy fruits and vegetables whose chemical pesticide retention rates make it worthwhile to buy organic.

Here are some of the vegetables that experts recommend that we buy because they are known to retain the most chemicals:

Spinach and Lettuce Potatoes

Bell Peppers

Broccoli

Asparagus

Cabbage

Eggplant

Onions

Avocado

This is a list of fruits that are worth buying organic:

Strawberries and Raspberries

Cherries

Grapes (Imported)

Apples

BABIES

I try to buy the most important organic fruits and vegetables for my entire family, but at times I just can’t manage it. However, even during times of budget crisis my green parenting goal is to make certain that everything my babies eat is organically grown. Infants are very sensitive to the dangers of chemical pesticides because of their fragile immune systems, It just doesn’t make much sense to swaddle them in organic baby bedding and dress them in expensive organic cotton baby clothes only to feed them inorganic foods.

DAIRY PRODUCTS and MEAT

Where buying organic really eats up a chunk of the family’s food budget is buying meat and dairy products. You may save money by buying from locals but I am thinking of saving even more by restricting the amount of these products that my family eats.

ORGANIC FOODS THAT AREN’T WORTH IT

With the information that we have, I’m sure that most people would go all organic if we could but in reality it’s just too expensive for most people. It’s a better plan to start eating more fruits and veggies that bring the least amount of pesticides possible to the table.

Here are some veggies that have few pesticides:

Broccoli

Asparagus

Cabbage

Eggplant

Onions

Avocado

And here are some low-risk fruits:

Bananas

Mangos

Pineapples

Kiwi

I focus on many of the items on this list so that I don’t feel badly about not buying all organic. And if you noticed as I did that there is no mention of seafood, the reason for this omission is because there are currently no standards in place.
