Are you afraid of putting on too much weight during the holidays? Are you wondering how to do your shopping to be on a healthy diet is spite of a limited budget? Or are you interested in getting a few nutrition tips for you children to be active? Then you should check out the following resources.

Tips on staying on track during the holidays

First, it’s time to abandon that “all or nothing” mentality. A single day of indulgence won’t blow your whole year. As Scottie Rawlings pointed out, that 5- to 10-pound holiday weight gain doesn’t occur overnight. Rather, it accumulates during that period of time between Halloween and Valentine’s Day, said Rawlings, a registered dietitian and diabetes educator at Cosmopolitan International Diabetes and Endocrinology Center.

I strongly recommend this article full of many useful tips on how to survive the holiday without packing on punds.

The next article describes another topic which has become quite important – how to make sure you eat a nutritious diet even when o you are on a very limited budget.

National Hunger ‘Events’ Highlight Difficulties of Living on Less

Mary Lou Kiel, training specialist for Penn State Nutrition Links, explained that the average person needs to be educated or trained to be a better shopper.

“If you really want to eat a nutritious diet on such a limited budget, you need to put in the time looking at store advertising circulars, finding out what’s on sale, planning your meals in advance and figuring out how what you buy for one meal can be used for a second meal on day two or three,” Kiel said. “You have to stick to your plan and not be swayed by what you see in the store.”

My last pick is covering my favorite topic we should never forget – the importance of good nutrition for our kids’ health.

Five Tips for Getting Your Kids the Nutrition They Need to Be Active

We know the importance of getting our kids the proper nourishment, but sometimes it’s easier said than done. Children and teens who participate in sports have an even greater need for the proper fuel to get them through their day.

Without the right foods to fuel their bodies, not only will their athletic performance suffer, but their school work is likely to suffer as well. Here are five tips to help your children eat right, and get them started on a life time of good nutrition.

By Marina Salsbury

As America fails to mount effective efforts against obesity, the average citizen continues to get bigger. According to 2011 statistics, approximately one third of adult Americans are obese. Not only has the United States not made any improvement in obesity rates, they have actually become worse. In a number of states, the statistics for obesity grew to more than 30 percent in the last two years. This disturbing trend makes weight-related ailments like heart disease, diabetes, high cholesterol, and high blood pressure some of the most common health problems in the country.

The weight loss industry pulls in billions of dollars annually at the expense of woefully gullible and desperate masses who are duped into buying their proverbial snake oil. A diet pill doesn’t have the ability to turn a portly middle-aged man who spends 14 hours a day in a chair into a rippling Adonis. It doesn’t take earning a PhD online to recognize the key to any successful and healthy weight loss program. As much as people don’t want to hear it, the only sure way to lose weight in a meaningful and healthy way is to change your lifestyle. Consume fewer calories, exercise regularly, eat healthy food, and avoid these dieting scams.

Frozen Diet Meals

These things are incredibly popular, and also incredibly expensive, though you don’t get much food. Try comparing the ingredients list to that of another frozen meal. So-called diet foods are usually loaded with all kinds of chemicals and fillers to make it taste decent after the real substance was taken out of it. If you want a diet meal, make it yourself using fresh ingredients. It’s healthier for you and your wallet, and tastes better, too!

The Fat-Free Scam

While fat-free isn’t a diet product in and of itself, it surely is a scam. The first problem is fat isn’t inherently bad for you. The second problem is low fat tends to mean high carbohydrate. You can find the questionable claim “fat-free” on products like candy, yogurts, prepackaged meals, and sauces. To keep the texture and flavor starches, sugars, and artificial ingredients are added in place of fat.

Banned Food Groups

It’s become trendy to adopt diets that promise big results if you denounce entire food groups. Along with eating fewer calories and getting more exercise, a balanced, varied diet is an essential part of losing weight successfully. Neglecting food groups leads to health problems like malnutrition, neurological disorders, chronic fatigue, depression, and others.

Fast Weight Loss

Dozens of plans and products promise you’ll be losing 5, 10, even 20 pounds per week. Not only is this rate of loss unrealistic, it’s downright dangerous. It’s considered unhealthy to lose more than about two pounds per week.

Eat Yourself Thin

To state that someone can eat all they want and lose weight is not only an oxymoron, it is blatantly ignoring basic biology. After all, isn’t eating all you want what got you in your situation in the first place? Your body doesn’t simply shed excess calories. It stores them in your fat cells.

Strict Diets

These sorts of diets always seem to forbid any sort of flexibility, variation, or flavor. Some go so far as to ban things like fat, salt, some spices, and even certain fruits and vegetables. They’re often limiting to the point of being unsustainable, causing dieters to eventually binge out of sheer desperation after having been deprived of interesting and satisfying foods.

If you want or need to lose weight, don’t be lured in by shining promises of fast, effortless fitness. People who refuse to make meaningful changes to their lifestyle often lose some weight, but end up rapidly gaining it back (often plus some). Anything worth having is worth fighting for. Truly successful weight loss is based on determination, persistence, patience, and hard work.

Everyone knows that the body needs certain vitamins and nutrients to function properly. We receive these vitamins and nutrients from the foods we eat. Monavie health juice contains powerful antioxidants, vitamins, and phytonutrients, and it also has glucosamine and plant sterols.

While we understand that the body needs these vitamins, few of us understand why or what these vitamins do to aid our health and overall physical well-being. In everyone’s body a natural process is occurring at all times. This process is called oxidation. During oxidation, some molecules can be destroyed, resulting in a chain reaction that can kill cells. This is not so bad because the body is producing new cells at all times. Antioxidants reduce the damage to your cells from free radicals by stopping them beforehand. Unfortunately, the body cannot produce enough antioxidants on its own.

In order to aid our bodies in protecting themselves from free radicals, we must turn to the foods we eat. There are certain "superfoods" that contain higher amounts of antioxidants and phytochemicals than others do. Monavie juice contains 19 beneficial fruits, including the acai berry. Acai berry is a reddish purplish fruit found in Central and South America. It contains anthocyanins and flavonoids. Flavonoids are the biggest class of antioxidants, and are known to help reduce swelling and aid in body cell protection. Another beneficial superfood is grapes. Grapes contain polyphenols like resveratrol, which is found in wine. This antioxidant is helpful in fighting high blood pressure and boosting heart health. Antioxidants are also known to help interfere with the aging process. Berries, such as blueberries and cranberries, contain antioxidants, phytonutrients, and have a low glycemic load. Glycemic load is important to consider because it affects your blood sugar, and keeping blood sugar levels stable is important for limiting fat gain and keeping energy levels up.

A very gruelling topic for the masses to amply understand is when it comes to their low calorie die,t is that they should be drinking more water. Why water? Why can’t you drink whatever you desire?

A very gruelling topic for the masses to amply understand is when it comes to their low calorie die,t is that they should be drinking more water. Why water? Why can’t you drink whatever you desire?

There is one big reason for this on this type of diet or any diet. All types of drinks, except plain old water (preferably Alkaline Water), have calories. These calories are hidden and are the worst way for you to waste your calorie consumption on, for the day. Think about this this. Would you prefer to eat a few more vegetables or fill up on a few more ounces of chicken or would you like to drink a can of soda? When you can in effect learn to give up drinking wasted calories and drink ionized water, you will save yourself invited calories to use the right way in your diet.

When you are dieting, calories are not easy to come by. You really need to cut them out where possible , and that includes calories in the beverages that you ingest A can of pop or soda will contain any where from 50 calories well up into the 150 to 200+ range, also they are very high in sodium. Something else to remember is just what are you getting from those calories. There is konw feeling of satisfaction in your stomach so you are still hungry. You don’t get much of a permanent taste as it is ordinarily gone within a few seconds. You do get caffein, sodium, sugars, and even fats that you just don’t need or want.

To make water from an Alkaline Water Ionizer a more tasty choice, add something to it. A simple yet effective way to do this is to just add some lemon or lime or even vitamin c crystals into your water. You should be drinking about 3 litres/quarts of ionized water per day. If your not sure how much fluid you consume , every morning fill a jug in the icebox with 3 litres/quarts. If you don’t finish it, you haven’t consumed your alkaline water for the day. By the time you have learned to switch your drinks with ionized water , you will have saved your self a ton of useless calories.

Organic bread does have many benefits. Over the years the quality of bread has changed for the worse. Bread producer put more emphasis on the convenience of their trade than on consumer’s health. The fact that regular bread is now made with additives to reduce the baking time, has caused a drop in texture and nutrients. It takes more to bake organic bread, but the health benefits and the taste are really great.

Organic bread may or may not contain yeast, depending on whether the maker wants to use a growing agent or not. Yeast-free bread is healthier because it contains lactobacillus. Depending on the recipe, oat bran may also be added to organic bread. Such products are known to reduce cholesterol, and they can be easily digested by people who suffer from some digestive disease or problem.

One paradox related to organic bread is that even when fresh, it should be firm, not soft when touched. This debunks one very extended impression that fresh bread has to be soft too. Keep in mind that soft bread is full of additives and preservatives. And this is not possible with natural, additive-free bread. Plus, it cannot stay soft for days. Consider these aspects when you go shopping for organic bread.

Whole wheat, white wheat or multi grain are the main ingredients for organic bread. Depending on the manufacturer, it is available in many presentation forms, from rolls and baguettes to regular loaves. We should also mention specialty breads that contain some ingredients meant to add a special flavor. You can buy organic bread with olives, walnuts, sun dried tomatoes, basil, cheese and lots of others.

Organic bread is usually sold in health stores. Yet, many people prefer to make it at home using organic ingredients. The Internet offers a wide range of recipes to choose from, not to mention that their are automatic bread-makers that facilitate the baking process a lot. It’s hard not to like organic bread once you’ve tasted a well-made variety.

Make it at home, order it on the Internet or buy it from a local bakery! The important thing is to include organic bread in your diet together with other healthy foods. You’ll enjoy a better overall body condition and a lot more vitality. Lots of people have learned this on their own. You can be one of them!

Despite the fact that organic farming enjoys broad acceptance and support, the concept of organic meats is confusing for many users. At the moment, there are very many products sold under titles like ‘organic’ and ‘natural’, but they are deceiving customers, reaping the undeserved merits of really organic meats. Labels create confusion, and the credibility of certified organic products is often affected.

Unlike vegetables, organic meats are more difficult to produce and provide because of the fact that there is more room for contamination. The use of growth hormones is the main inconvenience of non-organic farming. ‘Natural’ meats may be free of growth hormones, but they still may not be organic. You have to see the ‘certified organic’ sign to know that what you buy are truly organic meats.

The organic or non-organic nature of meat is given by the food animals eat. Those producers that really want to supply organic food to their livestock have to produce it on their own, most of the times. This usually requires a huge investment in equipment from tractors and haying machines to grain combines, tillage and planting gear. Other farms that produce organic meats buy certified organic food from other farms in order to support the livestock.

The above situations exemplify the difficulties that the production of organic meats involves. There are also the challenges of keeping the animals healthy and treat parasites and disease naturally. Pasture management for instance becomes an efficient tool in the fight against worms.

Farmers often need to find shortcuts to avoid ruining their business financially in the process of producing organic meats. They will thus grow for the less restrictive regulations and guidelines that save them a lot of trouble. It has become a reality for many farmers that planting organic crops is more advantageous than raising livestock on organic farms.

Therefore, next time you go to an organic store to buy organic meats, you may not be that keen on what you get, because you can’t be 100% sure of any product despite certification. Yet, for advanced product purity, the product benefits are higher.

And in these tough economic times, consumers want to get the most nutrition out of every dollar they spend. Dr. David Friedman (http://www.chews4health.com/meet_founders.asp), CEO of Chews-4-Health (www.chews4health.com) and health expert on Lifetime Television’s popular morning show, “The Balancing Act”, recently revealed four healthy fruits that should definitely be on everyone’s shopping list.

Number one on his list is the apple. Apples contain large amounts of fiber and pectin, which aid in colon health, as well as valuable antioxidants. However, Friedman explained there is a “wrong” way to eat an apple.

“The worst thing you can do is peel an apple,” he said on a recent episode of the show. “The apple’s skin and underlying layer are where key nutrients exist. If you peel the apple you will lose many of its health-enhancing properties.”

Also making Friedman’s list of the healthiest fruits is the pomegranate (http://www.chews4health.com/ingredients.asp), which is loaded with potassium, and vitamins C and B6.

“Another great thing about pomegranates is the seeds. They contain antioxidants and fiber, and are a great low-calorie snack you can have instead of popcorn while you’re watching television,” he said.

“Third on my list is blueberries,” said Friedman. “They contain more antioxidants than any other fruit. And if you are a parent and find your children are having problems concentrating in school, get them blueberries! They may help with concentration and focus.”

The last “must-get” fruit Friedman recommends is the pineapple. Pineapples contain an enzyme called bromelain, which has been shown to aid digestion and immune system function.

“Fruits can be expensive, especially if you’re on a tight budget,” said Friedman. “These are the four fruits I believe give you the most ‘bang for your buck’, and these are the ones I would spend my money on.”

Friedman is a renowned chiropractic physician and doctor of naturopathy, author of three books and creator of the best-selling CD, “America’s Unbalanced Diet.” The product he formulated, Chews-4-Health, is a delicious, natural, chewable dietary supplement derived from 16 of the world’s most nutrient-rich sources from land and sea. His product contains two of his highly recommended fruits, pomegranates and blueberries.

Friedman’s health segments on “The Balancing Act” air on Lifetime Television, Monday mornings at 7 a.m. EST (check your local listings).

Want to keep your mind sharp, lower your cholesterol, keep your bones strong and prevent hardening of your arteries? Then blueberries are for you! They’re sweet taste may make you pop them like candy, only they won’t enlarge your waistline. Blueberries are a new super food – packed with power from their rich blue color loaded with antioxidants. This berry contains a number of compounds that researchers believe have many medicinal properties that can be applied to treating various diseases.

New research is discovering how phytochemicals from blueberries protect healthy cells from damage and slow the growth rate of pre-cancerous cells keeping cancer at bay. Research has shown that, as with cranberries, blueberries can help ward off urinary tract infections by preventing infection-causing bacteria from sticking to the walls of the urinary tract. Blueberries can also help make blood platelets less sticky, lowering the risk of blood clots and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. Want to learn how to make this super food part of your healthy lifestyle? Then check out the tips below.

What Types Of Blueberries Should I Eat?

Fresh, frozen, dried and as juice – all types of blueberries are packed with power

Wild blueberries contain 40% more antioxidant potential than cultivated varieties.

If choosing blueberry juice, try to avoid the brands with added sugars or mixed with other juices.

Frozen blueberries taste great, cost less and can be enjoyed all year round.

The darker the color the more anthocyanins and the higher the antioxidant potential. Anthocyanins are the anti-oxidant coloring compounds that make blueberries blue.

How Much Do I Need To Eat?

A 1/2 cup serving 3 to 4 times per week to help maximize your body defenses.

To keep your antioxidant levels high, try eating smaller amounts of blueberries throughout the day.

What Are Some Tasty Blueberry Treats?

Home-made baked goods, jams, pies, whole grain pancakes, smoothies and as a topping on low fat frozen yogurt.

Briefly microwave frozen berries, remove and gently mix them together to spread heat evenly. Add to vanilla or plain yogurt, topped with whole grain cereal, walnuts* and cinnamon to start your day the antioxidant way.

Instead of a mango or peach salsa to accompany fish or chicken, try experimenting with a blueberry base salsa.

Chop dried blueberries in a blender along with almonds and raspberry jam to make a fruit chutney – tastes great on top of a sweet potato or with ricotta on toasted whole grain toast.

Blueberries make a great snack for toddlers or preschool aged children, for infants try cutting them in half, or use the smaller wild variety also available frozen.

Pack them for your child’s snack or in their lunch box in a small re-usable plastic container to keep them from getting squished.

Blend frozen blueberries with a frozen banana, a tablespoon or orange juice and a dash of cinnamon to create a delicious frozen sorbet.

How To Choose Them

When buying fresh berries choose those that are firm, uniform in size and indigo blue with a silver, powdery look.

Rinse thoroughly just before serving. While best eaten right away, they will keep refrigerated for up to 5 days.

By David3 Spitz3

It seems as though wherever we go to shop for our vitamins or supplements we see the words organic or natural. What exactly do natural vitamins have that makes them different? Typically, the biggest difference between vitamins that are called natural or organic and ones that are not is the way that they were manufactured.

When you shop for vitamins, you sometimes will see different kinds of labeling that suggest things such as "all natural" or "Not tested on animals". The key differences between choosing natural vitamins and regular vitamins can be as subtle as the process in which the nutrients are extracted and put into the capsule, or as broad as how they were fabricated and the origin of the nutrient. Some companies will only provide the nutrients in their vitamins that are from certain localities and from certain variations of the plant or source of the nutrient. Other companies may buy their nutrients in bulk and make the supplements out of them.

It is really a matter of preference when it comes to choosing natural vitamins versus other kinds of vitamins. Most people question if there really is a difference in the quality of the nutrients that are in them and the answer can depend greatly on the individual brand. If you are looking for a pure grade version of a nutrient in its more natural state, you may want to take a look at the natural vitamins. If you are not as concerned about where or how the nutrients were made into vitamins, you would probably choose the vitamins that do not say all natural.

One of the biggest differences that is usually the most noticeable between natural vitamins and those that are not is the price. You will often expect to see a much higher price tag on natural vitamins. This is because the pure extracts of the nutrient are more expensive to import and it takes more money to process them in a way that retains their natural levels of nutrients. Some people feel that the higher price is worth it for knowing how and where the nutrients came from and how they were made.

When it comes time for you to choose between different vitamins, the best thing to do is compare them side by side to see how potent the nutrient content is in the vitamin and if there are any artificial ingredients that have been added to them in the process of making the vitamins. If the vitamin does not state that it is all natural, there is a good chance that there are some artificial ingredients added to make up for the pure forms of nutrients. Some people feel it is worth the extra money to choose natural vitamins and know exactly what is in them and what they are getting for their money. A good way to find out if you can tell a difference is to try different kinds and see if you notice any changes in the color, texture and potency of the vitamins.
